Almost all of us took sex-ed in high school, and for most of us it was a… sub par experience, to say the least.
The first step towards changed is acknowledging what was f*ckd up and lacking–– so we polled the Ovee community on what they wished they'd learned in sex-ed.
Quality sex-ed should NOT look like this...
“Literally anything 🤦🏻♀️ mine was abstinence only in early 2000s America.”

“We were given a book called ‘Cinderella was worth waiting for’ and then expected to fend for ourselves. Literally anything better than abstinence is the only way would have been great”
“I wish we could have have a shame-free and honest discussion of STIs, and not have kids feel like they’re ‘gross’ if they get tested regularly!”

“That only 10% of people with chlamydia show symptoms!”
“They really should have emphasized that many people who have an STI, may not have any symptoms at all!”
“They focus so much on preventing pregnancy and ‘scary STDs,’ they don’t even bother to address other health issues related to sex!”
“I wish they mentioned that painful sex was a symptom of endometriosis.”

“In-depth discussions about consent!!”
“I wish they would have told us about m-f*cking discharge!! Literally anything about vaginal health. Only thing they told us about our vaginas was to keep em safe from scary STDs”
“PEE 👏 AFTER 👏 SEX 👏”
A big thank you to the Ovee community for being so honest and open about what you were missing (and tbh could have done without). Our current education system is seriously inadequate when it comes to consent, protection, contraception, vaginal care, and painful sex. It's a slow process but speaking up and normalizing these types of conversations is gonna make sex-ed much more educational.
